Jon has taught Spanish at the high school level in the northeastern United States for twenty years. He started LanguagePlans because he could not find resources that took the research seriously without sounding like a doctoral thesis. He works mostly with non-heritage learners in mixed-proficiency classrooms and writes about the daily classroom moves that connect the SLA literature to what actually happens on a Tuesday morning.

Norris and Ortega ran the biggest meta-analysis on second-language grammar instruction the field has ever seen. Explicit instruction worked. The unit format we all inherited from the eighties did not. The difference is where the grammar lives.
